“Every time you fail, fail better!” — our favorite tip from the leaderboard winners

As we’ve run through our first few Beta Practice challenges, not only has our team learned, but some of the players who have made it on the leaderboard have learned too!

We thought it would be fun to share those tips to help people learn what their winning playing strategy can be.

1/Practice, Practice, Practice …. Beginner

Sounds simple right? Our first Alpha experience we released was extremely difficult. We only provided one mode of playing and that was professional mode. We found that it was near impossible for people to understand the impact of each mechanic on its own because too much was happening at once. Because of that feedback we built 3 arenas in Beta Practice so that our players could learn each mechanic at once.

Beginner will teach you how your Golfer’s power and accuracy ability points impact your distance and control meters. Distance and Control meters are the core mechanic behind every single shot, so if you don’t nail it in the beginner arena, it’s harder to learn the more difficult courses.

“For beginner level, kitty golfers’ default attributes are more than enough to hit both targets, in the absence of wind, all 10 shots are identical. The second target, with the 1000 points bullseye at around 70y, is accessible to 3rd(72 Y) and 4th(128 Y) clubs, once you determine by trial and error where the sweet spots are, you can start to play.”

This is a Crypto Kitty Golfer. A Crypto Kitty golfer only has 20 ability points across all attributes. We minted them to have some fun with the Crypto Kitty community.

2/ Finding the Right Strategy for Your Golfer

As you move up in the arena level, more wind and composure impact your play. This is where the golfer strategy starts to kick in.

Higher composure golfers can handle the elements (wind) and the pressure better. So, the wind is less strong the higher your composure and the meter speeds are slower the higher your composure.

“Do not underestimate your golfer’s stats, it makes a big difference when trying to compete. For example, if a golfer has low power it is very hard to compete in the pro league because they cannot reach the long flag without going over 100% and suffering accuracy decline.” — PlinytheEther

“For amateur level, the 4th target is at around 124 Y, in the reach of 128Y, but scores above 10,000–11000 points are hard to achieve because of wind and overall skill limits. For amateur and pro difficulties, it is useful to keep notes in a spreadsheet about how & where to hit for every shot, in different wind conditions. Pro difficulty requires an above than average skilled golfer for competitive play, therefore not for kitty golfers, yet.”

“I would say get a golfer with power and accuracy around 175 or higher and continue to play until you know how hard to hit the ball in all the different wind conditions. The wind seems to stay the same for each golfer for each of the 10 shots, so you just have to remember where to aim and how hard to hit each one, just takes some practice.”

4/ Play with Family and Friends

On our team, we’ve noticed this game is a social one! It’s not unusual for two friends to play each other directly, only for bragging rights. Over the weekends, kids take over the tablets and are playing for the highest score against the adults. Even at social gatherings, the game will be up so people can try it. If you want to look for time to get more practice time in, this is a great way to do it!

“I am really competitive and in the first tournament I had some extra time to play. I got some of my kids and friends to play, so it also added motivation to win.”

5/Technicalities

We are a new game, completely built from scratch. With that some of our players found some helpful ways to keep the experience operating on full tilt.

“After every 15–20 games, get back to clubhouse and apply a hard refresh in browser ctrl+F5, to clear cache and stay logged in, otherwise meters become unstable and laggy and you can get disconnected after a long time and the records won’t save”

“One tip is, when playing for high score, to close all unnecessary applications to avoid volatility of the meters when the youtube video changes”
